Yakubu Ahmed Abaaba is the uncle of Southampton’s defender Mohammed Salisu. Uncle Yakubu has confirmed that the defender has promised to be available for selection for the FIFA World Cup playoffs against Nigeria.
Salisu has been on the news for some time now due to the refusal to honor the call up to the Black Stars though GFA has tried their possible best to get him to represent his country.
Alhadji Grusah also attempted but it was not successful.
In an interview with Sikka FM in Kumasi, the player’s direct uncle has given update on the reason behind the recent refusal of his nephew to play for the national but added he will join the squad very soon. He said;
“Salisu was really pained by the demand for money from some officials of the Ghana U17 squad then before he could make the final squad.”
“Mohammed Salisu has promised to come for Ghana vs Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers. The alleged issue in the Black Stars camp disturbs him but he will come.”
Ghana just recently, suffered a painful group stage elimination in the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
