An assurance has been made by John Dramani Mahama,the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to give back to headmasters the responsibility of feeding school children in public schools.
He disclosed that the decision by government to provide schools with food from the National Buffer Stock as a result lead to shortage of food in many occasions.
John Dramani Mahama, giving a speach at a sizeable rally as a section of his campaign tour in Suhum, stated that his promise to return the responsibility of feeding of school children to headmasters is to allow the heads of schools gain control over feeding.
He also said the following as he was speaking;
“We will give the feeding responsibility back to the headmasters because the buffer stock is not able to meet the food supply chain in the schools and the heads complain of food shortages.
“A certain headmaster told me he had to borrow money to enable him purchase food from the market before he could feed his students because the buffer stock could not supply them with food.
“We are not going to force them to buy from the buffer stock even if the food is not available,”.
He emphasised on his firm decision to make Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) education obtainable to people with the desire to learn a vocation.
